Kent Birch – Boxing for Rhys

For keen boxer, Kent Birch, the decision to support 2wish was clear from the outset, after the death of his best friend, Rhys. Rhys’ family, received invaluable support from 2wish during their darkest times. Fundraising for 2wish was Kent’s way of giving back and honouring Rhys’ memory.

We’re delighted that Kent shared with us how much he enjoyed the fundraising process and found it smooth and straightforward, as well as a platform for sharing his story behind the boxing. As a result of this, Kent managed to surpass his fundraising target, an achievement that he is understandably very proud of.

In the lead-up to the boxing match, Kent trained at Epic Golden Gloves Boxing Gym in Newark, Nottinghamshire under the careful instruction of former professional boxer, Esham Pickering. He received expert coaching, as well as fundraising advice from this wonderful role model, which made the whole experience for Kent, all the more worthwhile.

After seeing first-hand how 2wish supports families in need, Kent was so grateful for the support received in preparation for his boxing and was proud to have played a part in preserving Rhys’ legacy.

We’re truly humbled by Kent’s hard work and generosity with his fundraising efforts and gruelling training regime. The money raised will make such a difference to other families affected by the sudden death of a child or young person, so they need not navigate their grief alone. We’d also like to give a special mention to Luke Tresize, Rhys’ brother who stepped in for Kent at the recent cheque presentation. A perfect example of family and community coming together to support each other through their grief. Thank you!
